Oglala Nation parade grand prize winner Child Care’s Beach Boys

PINE RIDGE—There were 125 entries in the parade competition that took over an hour and a half to make their way from the hospital to the pow wow grounds on Saturday morning.

OST Child Care was the big winner, taking the Grand Prize award with their Beach Boy’s Show. In the tribal program division OST Transportation took first, OST Diabetes was second and the Minions took third.

In the community division, SuAnne Big Crow Youth Development was the winner, Hollow Horn Tiospaye was second while AIM Grass Roots was third.

Best cowboy hat went to Mike Carlow, best horse and rider to Lexie Brewer, best decorated bike and rider to Charles New Holy.

Most enthusiastic went Smokey the Bear, Most original to the Veteran’s float, Most traditional to contestants from Wyoming and contestant winners went to 1)Kyle Mountain Sheep, 2)Marvie Ferguson and 3)Misun Mills.

“It’s the enthusiasm of the crowd that makes the parade a success,” said Tiny Decory, parade organizer, “when the crowd gets involved, the parade participants really put on a show – the healthy competition between the tribal programs and the businesses made this year’s parade fun for everyone; I’m already planning for next years.”
